Help CivCon – Topic Call for Sept – Dec 2013

[Update:  The cmte will be Jim Z., John S.  Thanks to the others that volunteered.]

We need new topics for Sept – Dec. or so.  Which two of you want to join me in selecting our next batch?  So far, Mike and Bruce have volunteered.  As usual, it will involve one, 1.5 hour meeting to pick from a list of suggestions made by me, you, and other group members.   We’ll need to meet by mid-August.

If you have any ideas for topics, give them to me or put them in comments to this post.

Remember:

  • Politics and public policy
  • Foreign policy and world events
  • Socioeconomic or cultural
  • Religion
  • Philosophy
  • History
  • Science
  • Other you think we might get a good discussion out of

  1. Seriously, topic ideas needed. A few examples I’ve thought of:

    — Why isn’t job creation a higher U.S. national priority?
    — America’s corporate elite: Do they deserve all of the criticism they’re getting?
    — Lessons from Detroit’s bankruptcy.
    — Does college turn kids liberal?

I really need some good religion and history/philosophy ideas.

    1. Is it time to legalize euthanasia?

Sexual harrassment: Are the perimeters too broad?

Two historical topics, which I would be happy to present:

The Munich analogy. Is “appeasement” and anti-appeasement still alive? How should we understand the historical facts?

The Surrender of Japan: Did we have to use the bomb?
