This Week’s Mtg on Particle Accelerators/Astronomy (1/21/10)

Norm will present on, “What do particle accelerators have to do with astronomy?”  Sounds very interesting.  I am a dummy on this stuff, so here are a few links to basic info.

1.  Very short description of how a particle accelerator works.
2.  A slightly longer explanation.
3.  Listen to a recent 9-minute NPR story about the giant CERN collider in Switzerland.

I found the Wiki article on this topic to be way over my head, but many of you might understand it better.

Also, did you know about the website,  It has hundreds of articles on physics, astronmy, and science, searchable by category.  The particle accelerator entry is here.
